Dune
After multiple viewings I'm ready to review. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS
The cinematography is otherworldly and the scope/ scale of this movie are gargantuan. I was talking with my brother about it and it doesn't even feel like it's a movie. It feels like something more, something you experience. I don't quite know how to articulate it. It has to be the most beautiful movie I've ever seen with those trademark Denis landscape shots and the color palette. There were alot of things that looked exactly how I envisioned when reading the book so that was dope as fuck. There are some aspects of the book I'm very disappointed didn't make it in though. Like how in the hell did the whole plot line of Jessica being under suspicion as the traitor not make it?? Also I feel like they missed a huge opportunity to better explain the politics and power dynamics of Dune by leaving out the dinner party scene entirely. They also kinda flipped Duncan and Gurney's roles in Paul's life. I went in without expectation of how faithful it would be to the book so I wasn't dissatisfied with what we got, I just feel a couple of very important moments were missing. (The green room scene not being there really hurt) I do truly believe that given the runtime and the fact that it's only going to be 2 parts the movie was as good as it could have possible been. Thank you Denis.
