New York Times Top 10 Best Movies of the 21st Century (so far)
Moonlight (2016) dir. Barry Jenkins, rank #4
A real treat to see this in a cinema. I think the third act of the film is tailor made to just make me absolutely break. Tears were coming out my eyes and streaming down to places on my face I didn't know it could reach. This film came at such a perfect time in my life when I first saw it, and I think I'll forever love it.
Movies used to have Trevante Rhodes in them. What happened? I watched a few episodes of Mike when it came out, but there is absolutely no reason this man's last two films are a Tyler Perry legal thriller starring Kelly Rowland and a Prime Video Eddie Murphy-led Christmas comedy.
Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome also deserve more work. I'm happy Naomie Harris and André Holland have been doing pretty great and that Mahershela Ali finally found himself a way out of the endless Blade purgatory. Need a new Janelle Monáe movie. Glass Onion was three years ago now!
