Somewhere
watching this movie is SO cathartic. it makes for an interesting companion piece to lost in translation... where lost in translation is about seeking companionship within others, somewhere is about... discovering it within family. this movie is QUIET. it is SLOW. Sofia Coppola is giving us her best Reichardt impression in showing us the power of restraint. and good god... is this such a triumph.
saddened to know that this is Sofia's least known film, though not shocked by it. the cast is literally... one person ive never heard of and Elle Fanning at age 11. this is Sofia's smallest film, but her most powerful. and if im being honest, I think its her best.
Am I sad to be watching the final film I have to see in Sofia Coppola's filmography? very much so. but im glad it ended here. and I'll always remember quarantine 2020 as the time I got to truly see and appreciate Sofia Coppola's filmmaking voice and style for what it truly is: incredibly diverse, warm, feminine, and above all, human. she has the greatest filmography of all time. and I can't wait to watch them all again.
