Conclave
I think one thing this movie does so well is portraying these men as exactly that: men. Human beings.
Maybe this is coming from a place of ignorance but it seems to me that so often men who are high up in the Catholic Church almost seem more than human. And some of them for good reason. But at the end of the day, these are people with flaws. And we see those flaws on display in this movie and how it impacts them and those around them.
Lawrence’s sermon at the beginning of voting and Benitez’s speech near the end of the film are my favorite parts of this movie.
Rating increased from 4.5 to 5 stars on rewatch.
