1408
-Director's Cut
"It's an evil fucking room."
Well this is a contender for top spot.
1408 is a masterful representation of the grief, madness and regret of paranormal author Mike Enslin (John Cusack) , showcased through him navigating through the nine gates of hell in a haunted hotel room that forces him to face his past traumas and tries to make him kill himself.
It also worth noting that I saw the director's cut of the film and therefore saw the ending where Mike dies and becomes a ghost in the room. I have seen the other three endings on YouTube and to be honest, I love them all pretty equally. I know many people are divided on which ending is the best, most saying the theatrical cut where Mike is saved and, while moving back in with his wife, hears his daughter on the recorder, confirming she was there in the room, with a zoom in of Cusack's reaction being the final shot. All four endings work really well and I appreciate them all.
The film is so unbelievably atmospheric and creepy and is one of, if not my favorite film of all time.
