1408
-Theatrical Cut
"You can't take her twice."
After watching the full theatrical cut of 1408 I do think it is the best version of the film. The ending is by far the best, with Mike surviving and hearing his daughter's voice on the recorder, leaving the viewer satisfied that he has completed his character arc, finally finding clarity in knowing his daughter his still there as a ghost, or, you could interpret it differently and say it leaves you wondering if he is actually still in the room at the end. The director's cut death ending is good, but the theatrical cut just has a more lasting impact.
However, there are parts that the theatrical cut removes, including most of the scenes with Mike and his dad, a relationship I am disappointed the film didn't explore more. Specifically the scene with the dad in the vent and when he meets his dad in the nursing home in the fake reality, one of my favourite scenes in the film.
Overall, 1408 is an amazing film that explores the psychological trauma that grief gives you.
