Titanic
Watched this in IMAX 3D on a Friday night!
Aside from the feeling of reassurement of the normality and timelessness of what I tend to feel nowadays, throughout I was feeling everything from sadness to optimism, and a desire for a better life.
Titanic really deserved its Oscar wins. It really is a magnificent epic of such gigantic proportions that wouldn’t be possible in today’s age. I’ve participated in the growth of the superhero flick, and I’ve personally witnessed the box office decline of indies, so obviously this stirred up a nostalgia for the past. The past where the culture was still not fragmented and which still embraced all kinds of movies at the box office. Titanic also is an interesting analysis of the human experience. It highlights the good of man while also portraying characters such as Rose’s mother in a light that allows viewers to understand their point of view.
And the old money looking down on the nouveau riche made me chuckle! It’s interesting how many things we currently go through — and still encounter, and still possess — have already existed ever since. It’s fascinating how man never changes. From looking down on the nouveau riche, to going back and trying to rescue people because we cannot bear to let someone die, to a mere desire to be truly free.
The dialogue is quirky too!
