Scarface
Greed
Scarface you seriously got even better on rewatch. I'm ready to defend this film to the grave and I'm going to debunk the biggest critism of this film.
The pacing. And I'm gonna use the pacing to tell you why this film is so good. The pacing isn't bad and i mean that. The pacing isn't decent either. It isn't good either. It's amazing. And anyone who says otherwise is a cockroach.
It's structured with slow pacing on purpose because its designed to move like that. It's all meant to be so we can see Tony go from the bottom to the top of the drug empire and feel the attachment to the film and its tragic fates. Just because you couldn't sit in your sofa and consertate doesn't mean the pacing is bad.
Only thing I agree with is the dialogues could have been shorter. Some scenes tend to be longer than they have to but even thats okay because its the style of the film. Every scene is meant to feel like you are in on the adventure.
And what does this pacing give us? The tragic death of Manny, Gina and the rightly earned death of Tony. Tony is a piece of crap. He's the bottom of the world and it's a shame this films fandom glorifies him when this film's message tells you that greed kills.
This film is meant to tell you and tells you at many times that those who want the world end up losing the world... and themselves. Like Frank told him. This film foreshadows the fate of Tony and spreads around the message of how when you get too greedy, your fate is already written.
With the help of the pacing we see minute by minute Tony's journey to the grave and how his own selfishness and greed got him in the situation he's in. When he visits Manny and puts a bullet in him, you wanna know why that scene hits so deep in the heart?
It's because of the emotional attachment we have to the film at that point because we watched them grow together. And that pacing allows us to breathe with them and feel like we are in the film with them.
Even if you feel like your getting bored you can't deny the view. Your looking at neon 80's Miami at night with city lights shining at your eyes. This film feels like an adventure just because of the vibe that this has.
If you're a film geek like me trust me even if you feel like the pacing drags and the film takes forever, you'll be stoned to your TV because of Al Pacino's performance. May I say probably the best performance I have ever laid my eyes on. Even greater than Al Pacino in Godfather.
Alright the pacing of this review is pretty wrapped if I keep yapping like this. All I have to say is if you didn't like Scarface the first watch, I recommend trying seconds.
Otherwise you're a cockroach
