Lost Highway
“We’ve meet before, haven’t we”
I’m gonna need to think on my Lost Highway review, because David Lynch has my mind spinning in a million different directions after watching this delirious, unnerving, never ending ride of suspense.
93/100
Notes for review:
-out of all David Lynch projects that I’ve seen, Lost Highway is the most difficult to wrap my head around. It truly feels like a disorienting night mare, driving further and further, getting lost on this never ending highway.
-Lynch’s best soundtrack, score, and sound design throughout his entire career, and it’s frankly not even close. One of my all time favorite film soundtracks, truly some of the best music selection that I’ve witnessed throughout my film journey.
-there’s a really eerie use of Silence with Lost Highway that David Lynch utilizes perfectly. It’s unsettling in the way it sets atmosphere and puts us dead in the mind of these characters.
-The cinematography is exceptional, and some of the best in any Lynch project. From a technical aspect this film is an undeniable masterpiece. lost Highway is probably Lynch’s most visually dominant film.
-The practical effects are outstanding, and really add a deep layer of disorienting layers of nightmares.
-the costume, set, vehicle, and prop design is out of this world. Lynch creates an inimitable world, and gives the audience no choice but to get lost in it.
-not to be that guy, but the women in this movie are all outrageously beautiful, and a major proponent to this films allure if I’m being realistic.
-The entire cast blew me away, and deserves recognition when I write this out.
-Up thier with the bleakest twin peaks episodes in terms of surreal horror, this film left me complete unsettled and bothered. Especially considering I felt the fear Lycnh was trying to evoke work especially well on me. The creepy empty ringing, the disorienting dreams, the confusion of identity, the bugs, the feeling of someone watching you at all times. My high paranoid ass really connected to this, even at times getting full body chills; So intense they carried to my face, which reserves chills for things that really get me.
-Lynch does sex scenes unlike anyone else, and similar to Wild At Heart, there is an undeniable steamy undertone here.
-A technical masterpiece that I could see bumping to a 5 when I complete understand what I just witnessed. Lynch finally got me, I’m a bit stumped here, but couldn’t be happier about the Lynchian land I just spend the last 2.5 hour in.
