Before Sunset
“There’s got to be more to love than commitment. I have to tell you, I put the whole idea of romantic love to bed when you weren’t there that day I swore it off.”
I wanted to watch Before Sunrise but that movie makes me cry every time so I settled for this one instead and wow, did it once again not disappoint. As much as I think the conversations in Sunrise and Midnight are so important, this movie is so insightful and impactful.
Every single word out of Jesse and Celine’s mouths in this movie makes me feel like I’m being kicked when I’m already down in the best way possible. I love what Richard Linklater does with the 80 minute run time here so much too. It’s one of the most thoughtful and emotional uses of a shorter run time I have ever seen because you’re so easily able to slip back into the world of the first film and Jesse and Celine’s relationship the instant Jesse sees her in the bookstore.
Every time I watch any of the films in this series I’m left feeling so many different emotions and I absolutely love it. Someone needs to bring back romance movies like this. If I’m watching a romance movie and don’t feel the pain the way I do with the Before Trilogy, is it even worth it?
