Superman
“they chose him. let them die.“
third screening with this time in dolby. i just can’t get enough of gunn’s adaptation of “big blue”. i said it before but he just gets it. superman represents an unrelenting force of hope and love in a world that the cynical might deem undeserving. this being a third watch in a week, i was worried i would get bored or parts would drag but i continued to be engaged throughout. the pacing is truly commendable and the gags and action hold up excellently. i think when looking at the film from an uptight cinephile perspective, yeah, this film isn’t objectively an oscar-worthy masterpiece or comparable to films this year like sinners. that doesn’t matter though because this film evoked an emotional response from me that no other film has this year. i have been waiting for a comic book movie to live up to the joy and comfort that comics provided me through the ups and downs in my life. james gunn delivered and then some and i truly couldn’t be happier.
no promises on this being my last watch in theaters.
**“thanks for watching him, bitch!”
