Ahsoka
Episode 1:
I hate to start on a downer as this episode was pretty good but there’s something about this episode that’s really off and it’s the fact that there is a real disconnect between the characters being together in the same scene, it feels like the actors were in two separate rooms and they spliced the scene together, which wouldn’t be as noticeable if there wasn’t a ten second delay between lines in every scene. It feels awkward as hell.
Besides this issue, there is a lot that I did like. The Ghost crew translate really well into live action. I was worried about Hera looking odd but she doesn’t and Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s portrayal is perfect. The same goes for Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine, she’s translated so well and she doesn’t look out of place which I was worried about. Another Rebels aspect that has a great translation is Lothal, it looks stunning and the CGI was really well executed, talking of Lothal, Loth Cats are so cute and I want one.
I’m loving the villains and the late Ray Stevenson is easily the standout as Baylan Skoll and I can’t wait to see him and Ahsoka finally meet. I’m surprised how much screen time Morgan Elsbeth and the same goes for Huyang (this is not a bad thing on both instances).
I like where this is going but I seriously hope the disconnect in scenes stops or becomes less noticeable as that really hampered my enjoyment of this episode.
