Ahsoka
Episode 8:
“Long Live The Empire”
For a series that started so poorly in my opinion, this episode proved how wrong I was to be worried at the start. I loved the ending but for me there were two standout moments in this episode that were so beautiful. The first of which was when Ezra builds his new Lightsaber with Huyang. Kanan’s presence in this series has been so well handled despite never showing up. His name carries a weight and every time he’s been referenced, that weight is felt but having Ezra’s Saber look like Kanan’s was such a brilliant decision.
The second moment was the final scene, Anakin’s ghost watching over Ahsoka and Sabine was beautiful. Anakin has been so well handled in this series, I adore that we got this much of Hayden Christensen as Anakin again but this moment might be my favourite from this series, Ahsoka is as much a part of Anakin’s legacy as Luke and Leia and getting to see Anakin looking proud of Ahsoka was so moving.
The fact that they were able to recanonise the fact that anyone can use the force was really neat and I knew Sabine had potential but it payed off in a really satisfying way.
Thrawn and Morgan Elsbeth had a few cool moments and truthfully I was rooting for Thrawn to win as he’s just so cool but I wished we got some more interactions between him and the Rebels. Morgan on the other hand was really cool and her rematch with Ahsoka was brilliant.
My only gripe with this episode is sadly to do with Shin and Baylan. They don’t get nearly enough screen time and it’s a real shame as this is the last time that we get Ray Stevenson as Baylan as his story was clearly not over. Ray was incredible and his multi faceted performance as Baylan was unbelievably good.
Overall this series has impressed me week after week despite the rough start. Hopefully season 2 gets announced soon as I need a continuation of this.
