Hamnet
London Film Festival 2025 - #14
I have been struggling to think of what to write for this film since I watched it this morning. I wanted to say something meaningful and talk about how much this film impacted me but it’s impossible to put into words how I felt whilst watching Hamnet. It’s a breathtaking film and it’s easily my favorite film this year so far. From the very first minute I felt completely lost in this world that was created. The characters have so much depth and every performance is flawless to me. I am not a period piece guy but this was just something special that really stays with you long after you watch it. I was in awe watching this on the big screen with how beautiful this looks. The score accompanying the film is timeless and it just leaves a massive effect on you. Jessie Buckley deserves the oscar for this performance, it’s so raw and emotional and just makes you feel so much. Paul Mescal is always special to me and I just love his performance here. It feels like he was born for this role with his theatre background. Jacobi Jupe is also extremely talented and he looks like a movie star already at his age. Every performance like I mentioned is flawless. The way this made me cry is not okay, I was in agony for the majority of this film, it just really touched me and has left such a huge impact on me. I was leaning forward completely embracing the world that was created by Chloe Zhao. Completely and utterly in awe of how beautiful Hamnet is.
