Phillip Marlowe meets Burroughs meets Lynch. A dazzling and hilarious adaptation of Pynchon’s novel that amounts to the best work I’ve seen from both PTA and Phoenix. Balances a high degree of watchability with a dense and convoluted narrative which is something few directors have ever been capable of.
