Babylon
this movie deserved the world, and the world spat on it.
i never quite will be able to forgive anyone involved in the flopping of babylon.
it might be because damien chazelle is taking what hollywood looks as the golden age, and shows everyone else what was really going on.
it could also be because it is also showing a lot of hollywood what will happen to them in the elinor st. john monologue and they don’t want to acknowledge that.
it also might be because it’s kind of taking a beloved movie in singin in the rain and putting a Dark twist on it.
and that’s exactly why i love it.
brad pitt gives, to me, one of the most personal performances in hollywood history. jack conrad is what brad pitt could see himself as. now, brad pitt is still doing some of his best work past the age of the movie star, but that doesn’t stop the movies that he’s in from not performing as well as his older movies did.
diego calva drives this movie, and Needs to be in more. his performance is one of the main reasons why the ending is one of this decades best.
just can’t say enough about this movie.
also, fuck the academy. the nba finals used voodoo mama in their promo of the 2024 finals and you can’t say that for all quiet on the western front. don’t think anyone has ever said anything about that score since, except for the fact that it should not have won.
