I can rest peacefully knowing I’ve ended my October giving it everything I had and went to my happy place once more; unlabeled misery. Somehow the entire dispositions of two fictional men have accumulated to create the dueling outlook that covers my entire disposition with William Somerset and David Mills. Over the years I find the bar conversation between Somerset and Mills just before the John Doe interaction to be what sticks with me just as much as the other elements of perfection. “I am nothing and can make no change to any outcome, we are all irredeemable” versus “Those who are criminally heinous, depraved and removed from society are going to be forgotten and only those who endure in the face of evil can make real change; be what’s remembered.”
