Spider-Man 2
Many consider this to be the best Spider-Man film of all-time and while it still holds up, I don’t agree with that statement. Out of the three films, this is the most well-made Spidey film and is closer to the comic storylines. I did notice a few flaws whilst watching such as how annoying and unlikable some of the main cast are. The Spider-Man: No More storyline is executed exceptionally well in this film which gives Peter a great arc with a multitude of brilliant scenes like the one where Peter “talks” with Ben about his responsibilities. Ock remains one of the best CBM villains and Alfred Molina plays the character phenomenally, although I still prefer Dafoe’s Goblin. The action in this film is superior to the previous one with sequences like the train fight being contenders for the best CBM fights. The CGI is improved which helps greatly when watching. The comedic beats still make me laugh and the emotional sections still get to you. Harry’s storyline in this is absolutely fantastic and really sets up a great continuation of this, but unfortunately we all know what happens. The Raimi campiness still remains in this much like the first, but as I said before, you get used to it. Overall, Spider-Man 2 certainly is amongst the best Spider-Man films and maybe even one of the best comic book films, but after rewatching I think it has more flaws than I realised. But, I still value this film for what it brought to the table and how it helped to shape the superhero genre as we know it today! Let’s hope NWH doesn’t ruin Ock’s wonderful story.
