The Exorcist

oh boy!! i have a thing or two to say since this is my #1 movie and this is the first time i’ve seen it on the big screen. shoutout to my mom for being an absolute trooper and sitting through this while not being a huge fan and also sick. jason miller as damien karras might be both my favorite character and performance in a movie. it never feels like he’s acting, that’s just him. the complete arc between this and legion/exorcist 3 is just incredible and tragic. all the performances are stellar but he’s my personal favorite. everything is razor sharp from the script to the makeup to sound and music. there’s no moment wasted, it just lets you sit in this world and with what these characters are going through. it’s just relentless tension seeing reagan's deterioration. this definitely fits with the trifecta of movies that have scared the absolute shit out of me (lake mungo, skinamarink and longlegs) but william peter blatty's insistence of adding the last moments between dyer and kinderman add a sense of good and hope to the end. good did win but at what cost?
