Can’t believe I only gave this a 4/5 on my first watch back in February. I’ve had this film on my mind as of late for one reason or another and, upon rewatch, now recognise it as one of my favourite films of all-time and one of the absolute greatest horror films ever made. Possession takes the irrationality and emotional depth I love so much from David Lynch and mixes it with the sheer discomfort and willingness I love so much about John Cassavetes. Think Lost Highway mixed with Opening Night filtered through geo-politics to create something completely incomprehensible. Absolute masterpiece. Watch it immediately.
