Liberal Arts
Couldn't put it any better than Roger Ebert who wrote "An almost unbelievable pleasure...The kind of film that appeals powerfully to me."
Ya know that tweet that was like "Which movie feels like it was made just for you?" It's this one. By far. I haven't really looked forward to this little tradition the last few years, but this year...I sat there with rapt attention like I had never seen it before. It cut to black and I just sat and stared at my television for like 20 minutes thinking about how it's Radnor's fault that I've spent my whole life romanticizing everything after it happens despite being miserable while it was happening. A real lose/lose scenario. It's Radnor's fault that I expected anybody to even slightly resemble Zibby in appearance or personality. It's Radnor's fault that I've been expecting everything to just suddenly "be ok" for the past 8 years. And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. It's the closest I'll ever see my own nerves projected in patterns on a screen and there's no way a premise like this will ever be OK'ed by Hollywood again. It's like my stupid little bio says: "There is no greater comfort than knowing that your favorite movies are still exactly the same as when you last saw them". This is the main one. This is the comfort one.
So, once again, Happy Birthday, Lizzie. I'm now older than she was when she shot this. It sucks that we're both old now (but not as old as Josh Radnor who is [holy shit?] 46 years old??) See ya next year.
