Youth
Ugh. I loved this movie. I knew I would from the trailer, but I've said that a lot this year, and ended up not liking the film.
This film is such a rich portrait of age and experience, love and sadness, passion and apathy. The way it's told is so beautiful, balancing the seamless beauty of life and its rough edges, its disappointments and fulfillments. Ugh. And it's SO entertaining, never lost me from the opening shot.
I will say that it is a little all over the place, but that's part of why I love it so much. It explores so many avenues, maybe not perfectly, but it gives the audience so much to think about and look at, while never being exhausting.
I had such a fun time with this foreign movie about old people and that's really bizarre.
BONUS POINTS: Paul Dano's character he developed...NEGATIVE POINTS: That awful CGI tennis ball and mountain green screen at the end
