The Beatles: Get Back
The Beatles: Get Back - Part 1: Days 1-7 (2021)
Directed by Peter Jackson
Starring John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
Story: The first part of the Beatles: Get Back is a documentary about the "Fab Four" as they are given a short period of time to prepare a new material for a live performance.
SPOILER WARNING?: Because this is a 2021 project I thought I'd put a spoiler warning but this is also based off of true events so this is a semi spoiler warning.
The Bad: When the entire crew would get together to talk about where they'd perform they'd show a picture of what the place looks like present day which broke my emersion because the documentary takes place completely during the recording sections. Sometimes when people would be having conversations they'd just show random footage of those two people saying something but it's clearly not what's being said but footage of another conversation. Obviously it's because they didn't have that exact footage captured but it gave me a headache if I'm being honest.
The Good: Although I've never recorded an album, as a musician I can fully relate to the Beatles here because I have practiced with others before performing and it's the same process of seeing what works and doesn't work. And I have an advantage in enjoying this because I've been in all perspectives, I can see myself in Ringo because I've played percussion and I understand that sometimes you just have to wait till the others are done talking to continue playing because you've already got it down, I can see myself in John, Paul, or George because I've also been playing/singing, heck I can even see myself in Yoko because I've been in the position where I'm not involved in any way and I'm just sitting around listening. I think this documentary perfectly captured what it's like when preparing music.
