The Beatles: Get Back
The Beatles: Get Back - Part 2: Days 8-16 (2021)
Directed by Peter Jackson
Starring John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr
Story: Part 2 of the Beatles: Get Back follows The Beatles after John, Paul, and Ringo convince George to rejoin the band to finish the record.
The Bad: I felt like George Harrison leaving the band was really used as a cliffhanger for this part because it doesn't really leave an impact on the documentary overall and could've been resolved in part one.
The Good: When the band leaves Twickenham Studios and instead records at their own Apple Corps you can feel how freeing it is to them and the atmosphere changes from a cold open space to a more confined comfortable area. I feel like because of this the documentaries 2 hour and 53 minute runtime feels way shorter than what it actually is. When the band gets Billy Preston on keyboard you can hear the songs go from rough drafts to fledged out songs, Preston added so much to Let It Be and he doesn't get enough credit. Most of the problems I had with part one are non existent here. The fog of part one was very much intentional and part two eliminated that and you could see the Beatles just joke around and actually experiment and feel more free.
