Interstellar
Far and away Nolan’s most emotional effort— I genuinely ascended to the 5th dimension more times than I can count— there’s truly nothing like watching Interstellar in IMAX. One of those all-timers that could only exist in the medium that it does— cinema is really the only art form capable of tying together temporally displaced storylines with this level of emotional heft. Whole dissertations have been written about Nolan's commitment to scientific accuracy, but that attention to detail truly pales in comparison to his mastery of spectacle— how he impossibly marries dense and larger-than-life visuals with intimate, heart-rending, and sincere storytelling. For a film with such insane and theoretical shit as is presented here, it’s a true miracle its story is able to remain not only simple, but also universally touching— a father trying to get back home because of a promise. Love prevails. The sheer enormity of it all never ceases to bring a tear to my eye. A total religious experience on the massive screen. Already booked tickets for another screening on Sunday.
