Jaws
100th review of the year. And if there ever was a long review worth reading it’s this one.
I realize lately that I haven’t been consistent about “reviewing” the movies I watch in the traditional sense. Instead I’ve been describing the magic they give. The feelings, the memories, the moments, the shared experience with my family and friends. These are the reasons I love films! Especially with rewatched movies, I realize that’s what I want to document.
Jaws is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. I always watch it to kick off the summer! Nothing does the job better than this. Every time I watch it I can’t help but miss home. My mom loves this movie and it reminds me of how fun she is. My friend had a poster up at his house and I was always so jealous. I remember watching this at Lake Powell one year. It was so sick to watch it on a boat. I remember shark week during Covid and watching this alongside every shark movie imaginable. Jaws is the ultimate. I’ve spent countless hours talking about Jaws with my friends. It is so magical. I jump every time the head pops out of that boat. I know it’s coming, but it’s just too fun! I always quote along with the Brody, “we’re gonna need a bigger boat!”. I can’t help but read new trivia. It makes me feel like I’m still a teenager in the strangest way.
Today I watched it with Mav. Not sure if that was the best idea as a parent, but he loved it! At one point tho he said, “ok that’s scary. I’m going upstairs”. About 20 minutes later during the final scene I hear him from the staircase say, “what happened to the shark?”. I was laughing so hard. I vividly remember watching scary movies from the staircase when I was little. This is now a favorite memory to add the list.
So yeah this isn’t really a review but a love letter to Jaws and Steven Spielberg for filling my life with some many fond memories.
Can’t believe he was only 26 when he directed this. What a guy. Thanks Steven!
