We finally got around to my pick, and there’s not much more I can say about this film, but I’m still going to. Stay has quickly become an all-time favorite film and a film that means a lot to me personally.
I think this is one of Gosling’s best roles to date. He’s never gonna do another film like this, but he absolutely kills both the deranged and subdued aspects of the role. You can see the pain in his soul. McGregor’s performance was originally pretty bland to me, but with each rewatch it gets more and more interesting. I adore the camerawork of this film, which is probably the most divisive part. I can see how it could come off as over-the-top or gimmicky, but to me it’s the perfect way to tell this story. There is a method to the madness. Speaking of, it’s insane how jam packed full of details and clues this thing is. This was my fourth watch and I’m still making new observations. The score goes incredibly hard, particularly in the third act.
i get why this movie is divisive, but it’s a work of art to me.
