BEEF
The 5 stars is a 5 stars for season 1, just to make that distinction. Season 1 was realistic, raw, hilarious and also heartbreaking and my original review illustrates how much of a masterpiece I think it is. I love you Danny Cho ❤️
Anyway, this is my review for season 2 and I found myself mostly satisfied. The characters are beautifully flawed, entertaining to watch and I think the ending, not providing any kind of perfect, clear-cut closure was also pretty good and fitting for what the show is (didn't scratch the first season's ending though). However, I didn't find it that funny ( but it had its moments) and that was a big part of what made me fall in love with season 1.
I don't think I found myself as attached to the characters sadly, but that doesn't detract from some great performances in there and that character writing. The whole thing with the evil korean crime boss, and them moving like John Wick in episode 8 was just silly though. It didn't really feel like it had that same escalation with increasingly absurd events due to the beef. There was some absurdity (episode 4 was goated for this) and I loved that, but it just didn't feel the same as it didn't feel like everything was a consequence of everything.
Also what happened to the music? I can't really remember a single song used in that second season whereas season 1 had banger after banger that just hit so hard.
Anyway, 2 is an overall great season, and I do think it looks at things like the the segregation of different classes and chronic unfulfillment just as well as season 1 did. I think 4 stars would be fair for it, and I had a great time.
