Coriolanus

This was my third time seeing this (it’s been a while) but Iv gotta say.  Damn I love this film.  It feels a little special to me because I don’t think Iv met anyone who has seen it so it really feels like something I discovered for myself.   It’s based on a Shakespearean play but takes place in present day (if Rome was still a superpower) and is all in old English like the original.  Really brilliant concept.   There were a couple times early in the movie where it felt like a play reading not a performance but after that it’s really perfect.  A classic Shakespeare drama with no true heroes.  An entrancing look at the multiple sides of politics and issues in government.  The fanaticism and politicization of war.  Really great performance from all the supporting cast and a fantastic performance from Ralph Fiennes (also directed by him I think).   Quote of the day: “There is no more mercy in him than there is milk in a male tiger.”
