There are certainly films over 4-stars I enjoy more than some of these films, or am more likely to frequently rewatch, even certain 3.5-star films. Some of the most interesting, obsessively rewatched films are far from perfect ones. This also corresponds to how I tend to handle my lists.

Besides this, my ratings are a result of my metric for rating films being unexplainable, arbitrary and emblematic of my ever-changing benchmarks or reference points for “quality”. My ratings are more so indicative of my thoughts toward what a given film seems to intend to achieve, how well it accomplishes this, the potential for influence, cultural timelessness, overall entertainment value it has, among other things. The ratings are more so a reflection of my state of mind at the time of seeing it. It isn’t exactly a quantitative assessment of a films individual strengths or quality, and there is little correlation between films with similar ratings — I don’t negotiate with myself over half-star differences, hence I may enjoy a 2.5-star film than a 3-star film, for instance, and is more often than not representative of how well I was able to engage with the film.
