Relatable characters

This is mostly aspects of relatability and does not necessarily mean I like the film, after all I put Forrest Gump here and my relationship to that film is interesting to say the least! Also I feel like I have to put it out there that I’m not putting Taxi Driver here because I’m a male loneliness epidemic sympathiser, I’m not putting Shaun of the Dead here because I see myself being an emotionally unavailable boyfriend and I’m not putting Guardians of the Galaxy 2 here because I want to force someone into a relationship that they’re clearly not ready for.

I made a similar list about 6 months ago and it must’ve come across really poorly, I think calling a character relatable automatically can lead to people thinking you’re saying ‘I am them,’ when I think seeing yourself in film characters is so much more complicated than that.


Anyways here’s the list!

Yi Yi - Yang Yang and Min Min but I see parts of myself in everyone

Materialists - John and Lucy

Taxi Driver - Travis Bickle to a very limited extent. I AM NOT A RACIST MISOGYNISTIC INCEL GUYS I HAVE TO STRESS THIS

Aftersun - lowkey Calum 😭 but also Sophie to an extent 
 
EEAAO - The main 3.

Lady Bird - Christine

Finding Nemo - Nemo, but I see bits of myself in Marlon

Forrest Gump - okay Forrest is literally me a few years ago… that’s a hard pill to swallow considering the message of this film!

Schitt’s Creek - I am David. David is me. I’m not into fashion tho lmao

The Holiday - IRIS

Swing Girls - I think I more relate to the general themes of this film

Shaun of the Dead - Shaun, not really Ed though (that makes no sense I fear)

Black Swan - Nina. Nina 🙂‍↕️. Nina 👀 .

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - hard to put into words really but Quill
