Judging by the reviews and ratings I was expecting something bland with Victim and ultimately its not quite a highlight but its the good kind of bland where you leave not exactly remembering the whole film or the feeling of it strongly but it still has something to offer beyond those areas and you end up leaving the theater not thinking about the film itself or how it communicates its themes and ideas but simply just those themes and ideas itself and sometimes that's all you need, on a whole Victim can drag quite a bit but it still remains a well paced drama thriller that clearly takes some tradition from the Lars Von Trier characters misunderstanding school of writing and uses it to a effective but not quite memorable effect, theres lying and secrets and a ending that is bound to make one uncomfortably both pitied and judged the main character as her many desperate decision leads to a emotionally and morally ambiguous but wrongfully right path. A good food for thought of a film, its not gonna rock your world the direction for example is especially bland with your typical handheld long shots that tracks the characters around etc but its one that if you happen to watch it it certainly won't be a waste of time just don't expect it to be too bold with its style or where the story takes itself as this is a more self reflective film then a reactionary one in a sense of action or progression of plot, here things are revealed and the characters thus reflects and adjust instead of fighting or dealing with it in the traditional standard. Solidly decent with nice tense moments and effective dramatic and darkly comedic irony throughout and the main lead performance especially is engaging yet unpredictable like the rest of this very simple and servicably engrossing picture. At the very least its better then Pacification.
