For the most part this cast is very satisfactory, the exceptions of course being Patti LuPone but in a good way, and Neil Patrick Harris but in a bad way. Patti is absolutely stellar in this role, perhaps more so than usual—her interpretation of Mrs. Lovett is absolutely a new favorite of mine, her acting, as always, shines through, and I’ll once again say that her comedic timing is an extremely underrated thing she does very well. Neil on the other hand drags the whole production down with his unfortunate attempts at something called ✨theater acting✨ (Neil, I defended you(ish) for Company, but this I just can’t look past…) though I don’t find it unwatchable, and I’m more than willing to bear it to witness LuPone’s stunning performance. Overall I very much enjoyed this production and this cast, and think it’s really a shame we didn’t get to see this as a full staging.
