Barbie becomes a mermaid and the movie apparently decides that the most exciting thing she can do with an entire underwater kingdom is attend mermaid summer camp. 🧜♀️🌊
The visuals are cute, the Coral Kingdom has some nice designs, and Malibu and Brooklyn remain a decent duo. But girl… MERMAIDS. You have an entire ocean and this is what we're doing with it? The competition structure is bland, the environmental messaging is extremely obvious, and the plot keeps throwing generic “believe in yourself / work together” lessons at you like it's trying to hit a quota. Even the fantasy elements feel strangely manufactured. Barbie has officially gone underwater and somehow the movie still feels like a PowerPoint presentation.
