this is definitely a weak entry in the slasher subgenre…
honestly, i enjoyed the first 15 minutes. sure the characters are just annoying and the music is very much of its time, but it’s git quite a comedic undertone and my favourite scene was when that girl got split in half, sure it wasn’t monumental but it gives a nice introduction to the film and builds up a cheesy slasher atmosphere. after that, it just kinda derails. one thing this film definitely makes me feel smart, bc omg are all these characters high school drop outs?? like wtf did that other blonde girl but her friends dead corpse in the car with warm weather and all her other friends having to endure the smell?? also at the end of the film why did they go in a ditch.. like you realise you won’t be able to get out right? i’m just gonna talk about the characters because they were definitely a low point, not one character i built a connection with, they are all very stereotypical suffering from horror cliches and lacking depth, the final girl was sooo punchable. she had absolutely no likeable traits and kinda wish she died tbh. the villains are literally just the texas chainsaw massacre family from shein.. the rabbit was literally bubba except excruciatingly boring, the pacing and editing of the film is also awful, and the gore really isn’t good at all. maybe i’m too generous with this score??? maybe it’s because it’s just a bad mix of wrong turn with tcm, and i definitely liked both films.. i also have a soft spot for 2000s B tier horror so? this film is not good by any means though
