Info doc with some nice shots which he sold to the company who made the dam. funny since the doc is more of a critique of the whole process than a celebration of it
a notion of machinery, destruction, force versus the delicate, caricature of the location: "Suddenly, in Spring, girls begin to talk. Marmots no longer whistle their worries and joys. In the heat of the sun, there are no more scientists' meetings... because, this morning, in the meadows... the thunder of engines and detonations... abruptly pierced the silence." That early line sets the tone for the whole thing. interesting thus to go with chin in the air classical music that is at a tension with the subject matter. it makes intellectual sense but experientially its just a bit annoying because the music isn't very good
For tonal continuity I would have gone without the music entirely, or just picked better music if you want the vibe to be royal.
but it is a cool film
i see the contrarian crowd are angry at people liking this; "Insane how far up Godard’s ass you have to be to pretend to like this" and I havent cherrypicked that quote...
it is true though that people will kid themselves because its godard, but the counter reaction is equally flawed
