Putting yourself out there is hard. Putting yourself out there in the form of a ninety minute feature film is harder. Unicorn Boy is autobiographical in the introspective sense. Matty as director, star, and character draws so much inspiration from his own life and the world that he exists in in order to confront and examine life's difficulties. When expectation meets reality, disappointment is the result and that disappointment when not examined mindfully can hurt people. This is not to say to temper your expectations, but rather to find a way for them to exist with reality. Let the feelings flow through you and process them so that sadness can feel cathartic rather than repressive. It's a good message rife with visual humor that might not be for everyone but is definitely for someone like me. Independent animation is the way forward and Matty has a bright future ahead
