Nanna Man? Nah. He's a daddy, man. Venky ❤️🔥
Saindhav was a disappointing action drama. Venkatesh is at full throttle and is fantastic along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui who is just brilliant, but it mostly ends there. The action scenes were cool for the most part too, but Sailesh misses heavily on the screenplay & drama.
I loved the core story that Sailesh wrote. It’s actually very interesting and sets up for a lot of intrigue. Sadly I just felt he missed the mark in the drama and making it an engaging narrative. The entire middle chunk of the film the conflict really doesn’t seem to go anywhere. It gets boring, especially when it’s suppose to make us feel a sense of tension and urgency because of the situation our characters are in. I wish he stuck to keeping the conflict small. The film clearly has heavy inspiration from John Wick, but what he missed wasn’t not having that one take action scenes, it was the sense of urgency to get the assignment/goal done. I really wish he stuck to the plot line of just getting the vial for his daughter rather than extending that entire part for something else towards the end. I wish the father - daughter relationship was also handled a bit better, because although we do feel for them it’s not necessarily the characters. It’s for Venkatesh & a little girl.
Now my biggest turn off in the whole movie beyond any of this was the cinematography. I despised the look of this film. It bothered me in HIT 2 as well, but it was more apparent in this. I personally am not a fan of the collaboration of Sailesh & Manikandan, the way their films look is genuinely not exciting. Like it neither looks stylishly “cinematic” nor grounded in realism. The color grade is a major turn off. Santhosh Narayana’s score was a major disappointment. I love SaNa’s work, but this was just boring and repetitive.
I felt the world Sailesh created with Chandraprastha was actually hella cool, but again it all was botched down by a weak screenplay & drama. Sailesh has talent, it’s evident from the HIT franchise. I just hope he goes back to his roots of HIT 1 and brings back both that grounded storytelling that creates a sense of urgency while also looking visually stunning.
Saindhav is not a horrible movie by any means. I loved Sailesh’s intentions, Venkatesh & Nawaz, and some genuinely really cool & brutal action scenes. I’m always going to be there for Venky mama, I just wish he got a better 75th film with this story.
