I had the pleasure of meeting/interviewing Carl Woods before we showed off his film for the Short is Beautiful Film Festival. It was an insightful experience, and hearing the dedication to document Max’s journey and catching up to Everest with him sounded exhausting.
At first I thought the synopsis gave away a lot of the narrative, but there was a lot in this film that was explored outside of the blurb.
This film had a good mix of humour and tension. I did kinda wish that they highlighted more about the people along the journey with him, like his girlfriend almost reaching her breaking point felt so sudden. I also would’ve liked to know more about the foundation, and dealing with the ethics of allowing Max to walk up to Everest. And I can’t remember if there was more than one grammar issue in the subtitles…
Overall, it was a very joyous experience with my friends and I, and I think more people should give this a watch.
