I was hesitant to check this one out, fearing it would devolve into typical “stoner movie” cliches. And I think under less assured direction this could well have.
But thankfully what we get instead is a folky, witchy nightmare told through a haze of red. I wasn’t always on board with where Trim Season goes but hell if I wasn’t always engaged, thanks in no small part to some really gorgeous cinematography that reminded a lot of the works of Benson & Moorhead, which is high praise in my books.
