So I didn’t realise until after I watched the 2nd film that this was actually the 1st short film. For whatever reason Shane had deleted this off his channel. Maybe it’s for the inappropriate child prostitute joke and the scenes with the teacher…
So I think this one is his best film, mainly with how cliché it is. I’ve explained it before, Shane’s previous films are convoluted af, so it’s better when it’s a bit simple.
That being said, I don’t know why he strays these stories away from what he had typed for his book. I remember he explained that the story about his prom was a comedic anecdote that he told to his class about wanting to become a comedian. Taking that out in exchange of just a story about his prom doesn’t balance when there’s a hidden subplot about him and his friend group being unpopular - it was very shoehorned in when his teacher explained how the cool kids will become losers after highschool, which is a good message but was it needed here?
And like I said, let this film be about Shane telling this story in front of his class. We don’t need the intro and outro of modern Shane (which I’m convinced was included because he wants to remind people what he looks like now), show the overweight teen Shane in front of his class explaining why he wants to be a comedian.
I can’t help but be curious with how Shane gets Cherami Leigh in his projects. Was Shane really nice to her during the production of Not Cool, Did she need the work, was she blackmailed???
Listen, if she can go from being in Shane Dawson’s films to now voice acting characters such as Sarada Uchiha, Lucy Heartfilia, etc. then that’s a sign for everyone that there’s still light through the tunnel.
