(Commenting on the musical, not the movie)
If there’s one thing I did not expect, it’s the 2 hour 45 minute runtime. I would not call the musical boring, but it drags at certain points.
However, the spectacle more than makes up for it. You really do get your money’s worth with a NWR production tbh, but then again I watched as a #theatrecritic 😘 that means I watched for free.
If I paid for my seat, I would have paid PHP 3,000. And honestly, paying that price for a production of this scale would have made me feel like I didn’t spend enough. I’ve seen certain productions that cost more, but did not quite match the price tag.
NWR Musicals really does go all out on their productions, and this is no different. The dynamism of this musical’s set design is absolutely wonderful.
I also particularly loved Tomas Rodriguez here, who played the uncircumcised-at-first Gilbert. His character was so funny tbh… and I also loved Carla Guevara-Laforteza, what a star.
This is one play I wouldn’t have minded paying for, because the production value is really good, but I do feel the script (I’m sorry J-Mee Katanyag) could have used a few more rounds of editing. It goes on for far too long.
