Great sense of structure is what seems like a generic War/Love story Ford tips this on our head by making our stereotypical villain the protagonist. Mrs. Jessop goes overseas to see her dead son and look at what she caused instead she ends up saving a marriage and stops a potentially life ruining event. Also that water reflection shot was amazing too.
Forgiveness is more than just forgiving yourself, but what Pilgrimmage does well is show how long it can take. Mrs. Jessop took 10 years and a journey to see her son one last time for forgiveness. Her selfishness cost a man his life, but just because that life is gone doesn't mean a new one can't start and that starts with Her Grandson Jimmy Jessop. Absolutely heartwarming ending.
