so my love for deragh campbell’s anxious stare really took me here huh?
the premises of the movie sounded good: a huit-clos with an obnoxious family and a missing mother had some great potential and it could have been done better if they took more time to explore the disappearance of her mother instead of having pointless (but still pretty) shots here and there between two scenes with little to no pertinence with the main theme of the film. obviously a movie can be prettier than interesting but it doesn’t have to downcast its plot in order to solely rely on its visuals for it to work because cinema doesn’t function like that.
like I said, pretty movie. nothing groundbreaking but the shots were nice and the camera work saved the movie for me.
I really like deragh campbell’s range (literally watched this after matt and mara) but even her performance couldn’t elevate this film, sadly. all of the acting and script seemed flavourless and clearly lacked substance so I couldn’t bring myself to get into it for the life of me.
the little quote in the beginning of the film was good though, stuck with me the whole time.
