Noisy, Aggressive, Intense, Chaotic
5/5 band, 2/5 documentary
If you're a fan of post-punk and gothic rock, you've probably heard of the birthday party. If not, i strongly urge you to check them out. During the late 70s, during the death of the punk scene and the birth of the post-punk genre, came a band from Australia, unlike no other at the time, the birthday party. Who i believe had and still has the most unique sound to come from the genre.
Being as that the birthday party is my favorite post-punk band of all time, i was very excited when i heard the news about a new documentary about them. Unfortunately this just fell flat for me, and at times feels a little too surface level. It feels almost insulting to have such a unique, weird, and groundbreaking band to be documented in such a boring and clean-cut way.
If you're a fan of the birthday party i still recommend this documentary for the archival footage alone.
