Lieutenant Keiu Matsuo lost his life in a midget submarine attack at Sydney Harbor during the night of May 31 and June 1, 1942. This short animation film pays homage to Keiu Matsuo and his mother Matsue.
After watching 55 Miike movies, I’ve never seen an animated project from him. He’s only worked on 2 animated projects ever so that’s very shocking to me but no offense to him but it’s clearly not his strong suit. It’s very very okay animation but the movie itself is a sweet tribute and is pretty enjoyable. I’m not a huge history buff but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t kinda enjoy this. I would really only recommend this to you if you like war history or if you’re a Miike completionist though.
