Marie was just two years old when her mother gifted her to her infertile sister, a common Moroccan custom at the time. 40 years later, Marie travels from France to Israel, where her family now lives, to marry her one true love. Her warm and excited family is preparing for the custom of "Seven Blessings"- a week of festive meals in honor of the bride. But Marie has also come to open old wounds. Between intoxicating family meals, secrets and lies are revealed. Marie is desperate for an apology although her family is sure she should be thanking them. This week turns into a sad comedy about family crimes, forgiveness and loss.

Shout out to שלו על המלצה מצויינת

my synagogue paid for me to see this at the jewish film festival :3
i rlly enjoyed this movie & the way they utilize the sheva brachos to give more family backstory each night. the shot framing & lighting rlly helped to create a family environment and they did such a good job of breaking up all the tension while keeping the heart of the story. all the cast was great but there's one scene where the main actress shines & i felt her pain so deeply. aside from just being a good movie* it did affirm that i need to try sephardi food & marry into a big jewish family 😭 * the casual anti arab sentiment irritated me but i guess it's not surprising

This family drama has an interesting narrative structure based around these family dinners following the wedding of the main character. Unfortunately it doesn't do a great job at building up the characters and their stories so I struggled to care for any of them really. Instead I found myself checking the time a bit too often.
