Pretty decent, average kind of takeaway. Interesting themes about gender in society and societal pressure but the filmmaker somewhat takes away from this when he begins to cite himself and refer to his own life events, eliciting questions about the filmmaker's life and taking focus off the central characters.
I mean the film is called Something Like an Autobiography but I never imagined that quite literally, the director who cast himself and his wife in the lead roles, to cite his criticism of oligarchs on social media as one of the largest plot points. It honestly felt a little strange.
My other criticism would be on the lack of a strong narrative structure here. It seems like the whole social media, social justice aspect of the director's life is meant to be the climax where he must choose between family and his political beliefs. Again, I felt like this plot device was absurd so obviously, it didn't build the emotion in me that the director clearly hoped for. It's not as much of an issue because the film is short, it's not overdone and boring. Simply, it's just not as satisfying by the end.
Possibly this should've been a TV show considering the editing style and the very strong soap opera feel to it through the music, editing style, shots and more.
