ive loved horror movies for as long as i can remember. its always been the genre that tied me and my father so close together. so, when i was about 10 years old, he naturally introduced me to the saw franchise. when i say these movies completely changed my life, I MEAN IT. the way i feel about these films cant even be put into words because i feel so, so, sooo deeply for them. i guess watching them at that age is probably a big reason behind that but i honestly am so happy i got introduced to them early on. a big part of who i am today is because of my early access to saw and movies alike and to be fair, i wouldnt want it any other way. i think saw has impacted my life both positively and negatively for many different reasons but i also cant see me going down any different path than the ”saw” path. being practically raised on saw is something i dont believe ill practice on my own future children but its something i definitely would want them to see at one point in their lives, just to keep the legacy going.
saw as a movie though is just incredible. two guys with an idea just happened to make one of the best horror movies out of what seems like pure luck. leigh whannell and james wan are such awesome film makers with great ideas and great passion. even with a tight budget and schedule for filming they managed to make it work and i love them so much for that. the idea of saw just popping into their heads one day is insane because youd think itd be such a bigger and complex thought than that. the script taking nine months to write is an indicator on that i guess but it still honestly baffles me.
to get onto the actual films a little more though, i think they started off really good! despite the movies low ratings on this app, i think the first seven movies + saw x are awesome! they definitely took quite a turn after the second movie but i feel like people just love to call the movies ”torture porn” instead of focusing on the lore. i know it can be hard to follow along sometimes but its just stupid calling the saw movies sadistic. if theres any popular horror franchise out there that is ”torture porn”, its the terrifier series. now THOSE movies are cheeks and follow no good plotline. i will say though, jigsaw and spiral are really not any good movies. theyre okay at most. as a big fan of this franchise i feel as if i have the privilege to say so because.. lets be for real — they were just cash grabs. you could argue that about saw x and the SUPPOSEDLY saw xi that is still awaiting to be picked back up again. id argue against that with the fact that saw x actually serves more relevance to the original saw lore than jigsaw and spiral.
anyway, i just really love the saw movies, no matter how shitty they may be. i really am keeping my fingers crossed for a saw xi return. its apparently centered around hoffman, WHOM I LOVE. since 50% of the franchise is now owned by blumhouse, i am very much hoping they can bring the movie back to life. asking that with a big smile on my face.
