While I cannot deny the importance of wealth equity especially as it pertains to black communities in the United Stares, The Barber of Little Rock is overall a dull, sterile watch that dances around concepts such as mutual aid without ever examining the systems that cause them to be the antidote to the problem they’re trying to address. The lack of the examination and the focus on a lot of personal accounts to create a sort of uplifting feel to the undoubtably noble cause of providing banking and loan services to the underserved black communities of Little Rock just make this documentary just another short film meant to placate liberals who don’t wish to delve further into the inequities we live with day to day.
